Fishing Reports
| Feb. 20, 2010 - Back water | Report ID: 114 |
The water temperature is slowly getting in the fifty degree and as the temperature gets in the high fifty’s and low sixty’s the fish will turn on. With warmer days and a LOT LESS wind we have been able to go Fishin. The trout are starting to bite in the mornings and the red have been biting better on the low water, last of outgoing and first of the incoming. We have been catching some nice sheephead as well as big as 8lbs. and on 10# test tackle this fish is a blast.

Even that we cannot keep the trout for the month of February. On light tackle or fly fishing there are still a blast to catch and release. We are catching some nice Puppy drum up to 8lbs. and some nice red fish anywhere from 2 to 9 lbs. We are using live bait but are catching more on grubs and artificial bail and flies. The back water this time of year is the best because the weather does not affect us as much as it does on the open ocean.

With the temperature dropping in the low forty’s the red fish are grouping up on the low water. This time of the year the reds are grouping up in schools. They stag up just outside of the flats waiting for the bait to drop out in the deeper water. When the tide changes and starts raising on the flats the water is about 2 degree warmer and you can see them Finning. The trout are running in good numbers as well. We are all so catching some nice puppy drum as well. Had great time fishing with you all. The tally for the trip on a half day, 7 trout, 8 reds and one nice puppy drum.
